Associate Agent Program
Exit 4 · No capital up front

Earn your way in.
Capital waived as you produce.

The Associate Agent path is built for sharp, motivated professionals ready to own an agency but not sitting on six figures of liquid capital. Office from the district with zero overhead, earn agent-level commissions from day one, and earn the capital requirement down to nothing as you produce — then graduate to full ownership with your book intact.

From producing agent to full-time owner.

Get licensed & cleared

You'll need at minimum an active Property & Casualty license to start (Life & Health follows for production milestones and full-time appointment), plus a satisfactory background check. Already licensed? You move even faster.

Office from the district — zero overhead

You work out of the district office. No lease, no buildout, no monthly overhead eating into your income while you build. Just a desk, the tools, and a team invested in your success.

Produce & earn — your book is yours

Earn agent-level new business and renewal commissions from day one. Every policy you write stays with you and follows you into full ownership — you're building your own business from the very first sale.

Hit the production targets — the capital requirement falls

The Associate Agent appointment runs up to 24 months, and the standard $100K capital requirement is reduced — then waived entirely — based on what you produce in your trailing 12 months as an Associate agent. You prove your ability through results, and the financial barrier comes down with you.

Graduate to full-time career agent

Complete the New Agent Training Launch Program and your graduation requirements, then step into full agency ownership — eligible for the Retail and Acquisition programs from there.

Produce, and the capital requirement disappears.

Your appointment runs up to 24 months. Hit the production targets below in any trailing 12 months as an Associate agent and the $100K capital requirement is reduced — then waived entirely.

Capital Requirement — What It Takes
Capital Requirement New Business Premium PL & Specialty Policies Life Issued & Paid Business Insurance
Reduced to $50,000 $100,000 50 4 1
Waived entirely $150,000 75 6 2

All four measures in a row must be met, based on production achieved during your last 12 months appointed as an Associate agent. New business premium and policy counts must be self-generated and written in your own producer code; Personal Lines & Specialty counts exclude Bristol West® business. The Life Issued & Paid measure does not apply in NY; the Business Insurance measure does not apply in KY, MA, ME, MS, NC, NH, RI, or VT. Programs may change and are not available in all situations.

And you get paid to hit them.

Separate from the capital requirement, the Associate Agent Bonus Program pays performance bonuses along the way — up to $12,800 through a combination of milestone and graduation bonuses. Note the different clock: these run on fixed windows measured from your start date, while the capital requirement is measured on your trailing 12 months.

Associate Agent Bonus Program
Performance Bonus Must Achieve Within NB Premium PL & Specialty Life I&P BI NB Training Folio Bonus Leads Bucks Cumulative
Milestone 1 3 months $25,000 $800 $800
Milestone 2 5 months $60,000 30 2 $1,600 $800 $3,200
Milestone 3 9 months $100,000 50 4 1 $2,400 $800 $6,400
Graduation Level 1 12 months $150,000 75 6 2 Yes $5,600 $12,000
Graduation Level 2 12 months $200,000 100 8 3 Yes +$800 $12,800

Bonus opportunities are measured within the applicable timeframe from your Associate Agent program start date; production issued outside that window is not counted toward that bonus level. Leads Bucks support lead purchases rather than paying out as cash. Personal Lines & Specialty counts exclude Bristol West® business. Bonuses require meeting production and eligibility criteria and are paid following validation of results. Programs may change and are not available in all situations.

Common questions.

Exit 4 — common questions

How can I become an insurance agent in Texas with no money upfront?

The Associate Agent path is built for exactly that situation. You earn agent-level commissions from day one, and the $100K capital requirement comes down as you produce — earned to zero rather than paid.

Do I have to pay for an office or sign a lease?

No. You work out of the district office with zero overhead — no lease, no buildout, no monthly costs eating into your income while you build your book.

When do I start getting paid?

From day one. You earn agent-level commissions on what you write, not a reduced trainee rate.

What license do I need to start as an Associate Agent?

At minimum an active Property & Casualty license, plus a satisfactory background check. Your Life & Health license follows for production milestones and full-time appointment. If you're already licensed, you move faster.

How long do I have to earn the capital requirement down?

The Associate Agent appointment runs up to 24 months. The capital requirement is measured on what you produce during your last 12 months as an Associate agent — a rolling window, not a countdown from your start date — so a slower first few months don't cost you the waiver.

Is it just premium, or are there other targets?

There are four measures and you need all of them: new business premium, Personal Lines & Specialty policy count, Life issued & paid, and Business Insurance policies. Full-waiver level is $150,000 / 75 / 6 / 2, with a step-down to a $50,000 capital requirement at $100,000 / 50 / 4 / 1.

Are there bonuses on top of the commissions?

Yes. The Associate Agent Bonus Program pays performance bonuses at three production milestones plus graduation, worth up to $12,800 in combined folio bonuses and Leads Bucks. Those run on fixed windows measured from your start date, separate from the trailing-12-month measurement that earns the capital requirement down.

Do I keep the book of business I build?

Yes. You graduate to full-time agency ownership with your book intact — the clients you write along the way come with you.

Which cities does District 21 cover?

We recruit across the DFW Metroplex — including Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, Frisco, Arlington, Irving, McKinney, Denton, Richardson, and the surrounding North Texas communities.
